The holiday season is a great time to give back. For instance, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been coined Giving Tuesday, one of the biggest fundraising dates of the year. Whether you’re able to give time or money this holiday season, it makes a world of a difference. Our next blog post will include organizations that you can either donate to or volunteer with around the Western New York Community!

Volunteer Opportunities in WNY

Local theaters around the area are always looking for volunteers to help at the concession stand or as ushers during showtimes. Volunteering at these venues is a great way to make connections and see world-class entertainment! However, if you’re not really into theater, we have compiled a list of organizations in the WNY area that are looking for volunteers:

Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy

The Conservancy’s mission is to “promote, preserve, restore, enhance and ensure maintenance of Olmsted Parks and Parkways in the greater Buffalo area.” They are looking for volunteers to help with community events, weekly park clean-ups, and media volunteering to document their parks and events!

Friends of the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter

Their mission is to “raise funds and financially support the shelter, including critical and preventive veterinary care, subsidized adoption rates for senior and special needs animals, and training for shelter dogs in need.” As a volunteer, you can become a dog walker, host fundraising events like a food drive or collar and leash collection, or become certified in pet foster care.

Habitat for Humanity Buffalo

Habitat’s mission is “seeking to put faith into action, we bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.” As a volunteer, you will help build and repair homes for people within the Buffalo community!

Hearts for the Homeless

“Hearts for the Homeless® is a non-profit organization that clothes and feeds the chronically homeless, poor, and those in need. Characterized by a profound spiritual motivation to share the Word of God, the program offers nourishing food, as well as clothing, pertinent information regarding area services, companionship, and hope for the future.” As a volunteer, you could host bin donations or a food drive or volunteer at the food pantry and thrift store!

We hope that you will consider some of these organizations when deciding where to volunteer! You can also check out more volunteer opportunities at volunteerwny.org. Happy season of giving!
