Spring is a time of renewal. Out with the old and in with the new! Spring is an exciting time in the fashion industry as well. Designers and stylists have the opportunity to play around with bright colors and patterns. Doneger, a trend forecasting website, compiled a series of runway photos to summarize the upcoming Spring 2024 season. Here are some of their key takeaways:
Women- Spring 2024
If you have already been shopping in the past month, you may have noticed a few mix-and-match sets in your favorite store. Doneger noted that the runways showed, “a laissez-faire attitude towards matching [emerged] after a proliferation of the coordinating set.” While you may feel the most comfortable wearing black on black or other monochromatic sets, feel free to test the boundaries this season with compelling colors and patterns.
Future Grecian and Dark femme micro trends also emerged on the runway, as customers show a rising interest in spirituality. Goddess-like drapes offer a new take on femininity, while embellishments and lace draw from a rising interest in mystical archetypes such as sorcerer, witch, and siren.
You can also expect to see a variety of silhouettes, patterns, and colors decorate storefronts in the coming months. Straight jumpsuits, crochet dresses, capes, and ponchos, along with dynamic sweater styling dominated the runway. Although, the most surprising would be the return of the peplum style, albeit subtle. The best example can be found in Emma Stone’s 2024 Oscar dress. Like the mint green silk jacquard Louis Vuitton gown she adorned, you can expect to see a variety of candied colors in the upcoming months (i.e. red, light pink, violet, and light blue).
Men- Spring 2024
Utilitarian pieces have been at the forefront of menswear for the last several years. That hasn’t changed for Spring 2024. The New Americana trend has also evolved to subtler references to the cowboy and western style, encouraged by the fan-favorite TV show, Yellowstone and the recent release of Beyoncé’s country western album, Cowboy Carter.
Gorpcore is a fashion trend where outerwear designed for outdoor recreational activities is worn as streetwear. In Spring 2024, Gorpcore received an upgrade as designers incorporated active details in formal wear. Think active hoodie under a suit jacket, or joggers that actually can pose as tailored pants. Gorpcore could be found in a majority of key items and silhouettes on the runway. Bomber jackets, long-line jackets, casual suits, and bootcut denim are all styles to look out for this season. Pair these styles with the colors of the season for a more updated wardrobe: tonal brown, purple, yellow, and Klein blue.
