Blog Post: DIY Tips – Spring Cleaning
We are in what Buffalonians call the “fool’s spring.” Though we have a few sunny and 60-degree days behind us, there are sure to be a couple more winter storms before the official spring equinox. Between taking down the Christmas lights and checking off tasks on your to-do lists, perhaps you thought about cleaning out your closet? Rejuvenating your wardrobe is a common rite of passage while beginning the ‘spring cleaning.’ We have written out some ideas below on how to get started.
Cleaning out your closet:
The first step while cleaning out your closet is to sort your clothes into three piles: keep, donate/ sell, or throw away. ‘Keep’ will be your staple items or items that you want to keep in your closet. If you’re having trouble deciding what to keep or give away, consider the 6-month rule: have you worn it in the last six months, or will you wear it in the next six months? If your answer to either of those questions is yes, it might be best to keep it on hand.
Your throw-away pile is for anything faded or torn. However, if your items are of name brand or still in good condition, you may have some options on what to do with it.
Sell it or Donate
- Buffalo has a lot of great boutique consignment shops in the area. Second Chic and Paloma are two located right in Downtown Buffalo. Second Chic has two locations on Elmwood Ave and Main St in Buffalo. While Paloma is located on Grant St. Their consignment shops look and feel like a boutique, but are filled with many pre-loved, fashion-forward items. You may also consider donating your clothes to Savers and Goodwill or trying online services like Poshmark and ThredUp.
Host a clothing swap
- Most of the time, your friends are getting rid of their clothes as well. Consider hosting a clothing swap with some of your friends that share your style. That way, you can find some one-of-a-kind pieces and share some of yours with people that you trust.
Re-envision it
