A fashion trend is a particular fashion design that is popular at a specific period. The world has seen its fair share of fashion trends, but did you know that trends are often specifically influenced by trend forecasters? The fashion industry has multiple consultant firms that curate and write about these upcoming trends, so designers can create the pieces customers are looking for. Our next blog post references firms like WGSN and The Doneger Group to look into Autumn/Winter ‘23/24 fashion trends.

From the Runway:

Tobe and The Doneger Group is a fashion trend website that offers consumer insights and forecast services for the fashion industry. For the Autumn/ Winter ‘23/24 season, they compiled a series of runway photos to point out key trends among the designers. Elevated basics and well-made wardrobe staples will define a woman’s wardrobe this fall. “Quiet luxury,” a term made popular on TikTok, is best explained by a cinched-waist blazer, neutral trousers, and sleek pair of jeans recently seen within each runway show. These items are highlighted by a natural color palette but also juxtaposed with pops of pink and red and elevated patterns.

Pop culture has always had a direct influence on the fashion industry. So, it comes as no surprise to find nostalgic Western details and ’70s styles hot off the craze of TV shows like “Yellowstone” and “Daisy Jones and the Six.” This New Americana trend is elevated with leather and metallic weaves, neutral sequins, and overlays.

For men, they can also look towards more classic modes of dress like flowy trousers and smart cardigans. Sleek suiting and leather will move the trend in a new direction, as pastel colors such as light aqua, violets, and yellows stand out. Elevated patterns, including bold and party stripes, will complement this juxtaposition, as designers continue to add bold pieces amongst the “quiet luxury” basics.

Textiles:

Regarding textiles, customers can expect to see a lot of the existing designs they know and love, infused with a modern twist. According to the Autumn/Winter ‘23/24 Textile trend report by WGSN, heritage-inspired patterns will be shown in new color combinations and textural yarn qualities, evoking a feeling of newness. Comfort will be key, as designers lean towards softer surfaces with easy-care weave constructions to support the work-from-home era. More formal designs will take from the sharp style and tailored classics of traditional suiting, with an emphasis on texture.

Additional emphasis will be on sustainable yarn alternatives as designers begin to offer more conscious choices. Fiber selections will expand into hemp, linen, yak, and alpaca to enable comfortability and longevity. Recycled materials will continue to have its moment, as designers grapple with the fashion industry’s continuing waste problem.  As a dry-cleaning service, our business revolves around the type of fashion our customers wear. We notice the cool and fashionable clothing our customers bring in and love to keep up to date on what’s happening in the industry. We encourage everyone to do the same and take care of the pieces you already have. You never know when a trend will make a comeback!
